The Bedrock SB41 SoundBox is a compact, battery-powered portable omnidirectional sound source designed for building acoustics measurements including airborne sound insulation (DnT,w per ISO 16283-1), impact sound insulation (L'nT,w per ISO 16283-2), and reverberation time (RT60 per ISO 3382-2). Its portable battery-powered design enables fast field deployment without the need for mains power at the source position — a significant advantage in situations where access to power sockets is limited or where the measurement setup must be changed frequently between rooms.
Building acoustics measurements require a sound source that provides sufficient output level in the source room to generate a measurable signal in the receiving room after transmission through the separating element (wall, floor, or ceiling). The SB41 provides the acoustic output required for most standard residential and commercial building acoustics measurement scenarios, with the convenience of battery power and compact size for easy one-person operation.
The BRELUXE05 is a larger omnidirectional source with higher output capability and formal ISO compliance documentation for demanding building acoustics applications and large spaces. The SB41 is more compact and convenient for typical residential and commercial building measurements where portability and quick deployment are the priority. For formal ISO 16283 compliance documentation and larger spaces, the BRELUXE05 is recommended.
For best results with the SB41, position the source at least 0.5 m from any room boundary and at least 1 m from the measurement microphone. In smaller rooms, source and receiver positions should be chosen to avoid direct coupling between source and receiver — angled placement or off-axis positioning helps. Battery charge level affects output — always verify the battery is adequately charged before a measurement session. For airborne sound insulation measurements, ensure all doors, windows, and ventilation grilles are in their normal closed position before beginning the source-room measurement. Record the source room reverberation time as well as the sound pressure level in both source and receiving rooms; the standardised level difference DnT,w requires both measurements to be complete.
