The BRELUXE05 is a professional omnidirectional sound source (dodecahedron loudspeaker) for room acoustics and building acoustics measurements. It is compliant with ISO 3382 (reverberation time and room acoustic parameters) and ISO 16283 (field measurement of sound insulation in buildings) for use as the excitation source in standardized acoustic measurements. The omnidirectional radiation pattern of the dodecahedron speaker design ensures that the measurement environment is excited uniformly from all directions, meeting the requirements of these standards.
Building acoustics measurements per ISO 16283 and room acoustics measurements per ISO 3382 both require a sound source with omnidirectional radiation characteristics. A conventional loudspeaker or talkbox does not meet this requirement. The BRELUXE05's dodecahedron design provides the standardised omnidirectional excitation needed for measurements that must comply with these ISO standards.
For a complete building acoustics measurement kit, combine the BRELUXE05 with: Bedrock Elite i10 or i9 (measurement instrument with RT60 and 1/3 octave capability), and optionally the Bedrock BIMK impulsive source kit for impulse response measurements. The i10 also supports direct ISO 16283 building acoustics calculation workflows.
Correct positioning of the BRELUXE05 is critical for measurement validity. Per ISO 3382 and ISO 16283, the source centre should be at least 0.5 m from any room boundary and at least 1 m from the measurement microphone. The source and microphone must not face each other directly — avoid placing the microphone in the direct radiation axis of the source. For airborne sound insulation measurements, position the source in the source room to excite as many room modes as possible; a central position is generally avoided in favour of an eccentric position for better modal excitation in small rooms. The BRELUXE05 is powered by a mains adapter; ensure power is available at the source position or use an extension cable appropriate for the measurement area. Always warm up the source for at least two minutes before starting measurements to allow the driver to reach operating temperature and stabilise its output level.
