Frequently Asked Questions

What does "all modules included" mean?
Every Bedrock Elite instrument ships fully unlocked with all measurement modules included — sound level metering, STIPA (where applicable), octave analysis, reverberation time, FFT, statistical analysis, and data logging. There are no firmware gates, no post-purchase unlock fees, no subscription costs, and no annual renewal fees. What you order is what you receive, fully functional from day one. This includes all future firmware updates for the life of the instrument at no charge.
What is the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 sound level meters?
Class 1 instruments comply with IEC 61672-1 Class 1 with tighter measurement tolerances (typically ±1.1 dB across the frequency range). Class 1 is required for regulatory measurements, legal proceedings, environmental noise assessments, and professional acoustic consultancy. Class 2 instruments have slightly wider tolerances (±1.4 dB) and are suitable for general noise surveys and screening measurements where regulatory defensibility is not critical.
What is STIPA and which instruments measure it?
STIPA (Speech Transmission Index for Public Address systems) measures speech intelligibility per IEC 60268-16. It is required for voice alarm commissioning, PA/GA system acceptance testing, and annual inspections per EN 54-16, BS 5839-8, and ISO 7240-19. Bedrock Elite instruments with STIPA: i10 (Full STI + STIPA), i9 (STIPA), i5 (STIPA), SM50 (STIPA, Class 2).
What is Full STI and how is it different from STIPA?
Full STI uses 98 modulation frequencies (7 per octave band) for maximum accuracy. STIPA uses 14 modulation frequencies as a faster approximation. The Bedrock Elite i10 is the only instrument capable of performing Full STI in under 60 seconds. Both are standardized in IEC 60268-16. Read more: Full STI vs STIPA guide.
Is ISO 17025 accredited calibration available?
Yes. ISO 17025 accredited calibration is available for all Bedrock Elite instruments as an option at the time of purchase and for recalibration after one to two years of use. Factory calibration certificates are supplied as standard with every instrument. Contact us for calibration interval recommendations and pricing.
What warranty is provided?
Bedrock Elite instruments come with a manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Extended calibration and service plans are available. Contact us for full warranty terms and extended support options.
Which talkbox do I need for STIPA measurement?
For most indoor PA and voice alarm systems, the BTB65 Talkbox is suitable. For large auditoria, stadiums, outdoor systems, airports, and other high-SPL environments, the BTB115 Advanced Talkbox (115 dB SPL output) is recommended. Both are IEC 60268-16 compliant.
