Bedrock SM90 — Class 1 Sound Level Meter with Octave Band Analysis & Data Logging

The Bedrock SM90 is a professional IEC 61672-1 Class 1 sound level meter with real-time 1/1 octave band analysis, statistical noise analysis (Ln percentiles: L10, L50, L90, L95, L99), and data logging for long-term unattended measurements. It is designed for environmental noise assessments, occupational noise surveys, regulatory compliance measurements, and building acoustics frequency-specific measurements. All capabilities are included in the SM90's standard configuration — no additional module purchases required.

The SM90 fills an important position in the Bedrock product range: Class 1 accuracy with octave analysis and data logging, for professionals who need environmental noise and occupational noise capability without STIPA. It is the right choice for environmental consultants, health and safety professionals, and noise control engineers who regularly conduct ISO 1996 and ISO 9612 measurements but do not need speech intelligibility testing capability.

SM90 vs i-Series — When to Choose Which

The SM90 is the right choice if you need Class 1 sound level metering with octave analysis and data logging, but not STIPA or Full STI. If you also need STIPA, the i9 (STIPA + octave + RT60 + data logging) or i10 (Full STI + every capability) would be the better fit.

Practical Notes for Environmental and Occupational Noise Work

The SM90 is particularly well suited to consultants and safety officers who conduct regular environmental and occupational noise surveys and need a robust, reliable Class 1 instrument for everyday field work. The 1/1 octave analysis capability allows identification of dominant frequency contributions to a noise problem — useful for specifying noise control measures and for assessing low-frequency industrial noise sources that may be underweighted by A-weighting alone. Data logging allows the SM90 to be left unattended for multi-hour or overnight measurement sessions when a site requires characterization of nighttime noise levels for Lnight or Lden calculations. Pair the SM90 with a Class 1 acoustic calibrator (BAC3 or BAC4) for every measurement session to ensure measurement validity.
